I spotted someone wearing a Tshirt with the words "Dance like nobody's watching" emblazoned across his chest. It really resonated with me for that's how I've always tried to live my life. 

Too many times, people are concerned with what others think. Its so sad when people are so constrained by what other people think that they live their life according to the dictates of others, instead of pursuing their dreams.

Top 5 deadly mistakes made by internet marketers

The third mistake that internet marketers make is that they often sign up for something without an automated system. I have a confession to make. I hate to sell and there’s nothing I dread more than having to chase after friends and relatives for sales! That's why I've never done network marketing and direct selling. You’d want to join a system where everything is on auto-pilot so that you can live a life with the 2 Freedoms that we all hold dear – Financial freedom and Time freedom! Sometimes I have to pinch myself as I too can’t believe how lucky I am to have discovered BIM for the 2 Freedoms that I currently enjoy! I actually live a stress-free life! The Strengths and Weaknesses of the iPhone 5S

Having used the iPhone 4s and the iPhone 5, I was naturally looking forward to getting my hands on the iPhone 5s.  When I finally got the Apple iPhone 5S I must say that generally, it’s a solid effort on Apple’s part, but it isn’t without its faults.

These are some of the robust points and feeble points I have noted during the last 10 days. iOS 7 is a little iffy on the 5S.

I have installed iOS 7 on an iPhone 5, and an iPad Mini. It runs best on the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini. On the iPhone 5s, iOS 7 is susceptible to app crashes. 3rd party app crashes are not too horrible, but when local apps like the Settings Menu and Safari crash, you know something’s ain’t right.

The hardware is fine, if unexciting. The 5S is a solid tiny gizmo. Apple designed it with care and everything about it exudes quality and class. The display is great, even if it is a little smaller than I wished for. However, the tiny form factor makes it easy to carry around and use.

It is not the best voice telephone. I have been testing an ATT model of the iPhone 5S and am not impressed by its calls. I heard tons of interference and the earpiece speaker does not get quite loud enough. The speakerphone produces masses of volume, but it also intensifies the interference. The iPhone 5 is a better voice telephone.

The battery has not given me any difficulty, however. The initial few days were a bit iffy, but that is true for most smartphones.

Once the battery cycled through 1 or 2 charges, it settled into a good rhythm. I customarily got a full day out of it, notwithstanding heavy use. It’s worth pointing out, though that the battery can’t be removed or replaced, so you’re lumbered with what’s sealed in the iPhone 5S. The camera is great. The new software, mixed with the improved sensor, go a good distance towards making the iPhone 5S one of the greatest camera telephones available.

The camera app is easier to utilize and includes more features ,eg burst mode and slow-motion video footage capture, and the results are on par with today’s best devices. The improved studio app is more potent when it comes down to organising photographs, and some of the revising tools are a nice addition.

iOS 7 is still rigid. Apple’s straightforward smartphone / tablet control panel may win effectiveness awards, nonetheless it is not nearly as flexible or customizable as Android or Windows Phone . The incapacity to regulate precisely where programs are positioned is annoying, and the absence of resizeable home screen widgets and programs leaves the OS looking too homogeneous. I’d really like to see some really dynamic content on the home screen.

Control Center is useful. Apple’s new dashboard for controlling some of the iPhone 5S’s features is a great help. It makes straightforward jobs like turning off and on the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth radios a breeze. I also like the fact that it includes controls for the music player as well as programs like the flash-light, calculator, timer, and camera. This is certainly a time-saver, considering that it took quite a few steps to reach many of those controls in prior variations of iOS. There’s lots to love about the 5S, but at the day’s end it offers only a marginally different experience than last year’s iPhone 5. The Touch ID fingerprint sensor is the largest difference. The camera and processor enhancements in the 5S, though real, are not all that far better than the iPhone 5. We are able to only hope that Apple will make serious changes in next year’s iPhone 6.

The Costa Concordia afloat again

I’ve never sailed on the Costa Concordia. However, I did sail in 2007 on her sister ship, the Costa Serena on a 3 week cruise in the Western Mediterranean.

The ship was massive weighing in at 112 thousand tons! The interior of the ship was “interesting” with bold glitzy post modern designs complete with glass bubble elevators. The service staff were largely Italian, Eastern European and Filipinos. The best thing about the ship I thought was the Formula One Simulator on board.

As a former motor racing champion, the F1 Simulator was something I looked forward to, so I wasted no time booking a time once I was on board. The session was so intense that when I emerged from the cockpit after 15 minutes, I was drenched in sweat, partly due to the intense concentration and partly due to the fact that I insisted on wearing my old racing overalls to simulate the actual experience!

Although we enjoyed our cruise, we were rather put off by the loud mainly Italian passengers and the fact that everything on board, including the evening shows had to be translated into 5 languages! We resolved never to sail Costa again … fortunately.

The Costa Concordia incident has not put us off cruising. In fact, we booked two 6 star cruises in the aftermath of the Concordia incident as we knew that prices would plunge and the perks offered by cruise lines would rise correspondingly! Sure enough, we booked a back to back Crystal Symphony and a Seabourne Odyssey cruise to the Greek Isles at massive discounts and received on board credits running into $2,500, which we used for purchasing useful stuff such as high end watches on board.

In our view, cruising is till the world’s safest mode of transport for you can count on your fingertips the number of fatalities since the Titanic incident more than a century ago!

Fortunately, on the fateful night of the Concordia incident, when the captain was racked by indecision and some say, cowardice, the captain of the Costa Serena who happened to be on board hitching a ride back to Savona, Costa’s home port, took charge and ordered the evacuation! As a result the damage was greatly mitigated.

What this incident showed is the importance of being decisive and the folly of procrastination. If you had always found yourself wishing that you had the courage to throw off the shackles of a humdrum existence, be decisive and remove that yoke of  a soul sucking job! Sack your boss! A true and heart warming story

Ignacy J. Paderewski

This is a true story. It happened in 1892 at Stanford University.

An 18-year-old student was desperate to pay his tuition fees. He was an orphan, and since he had run out of options on where to get money, he came up with a bright idea. He and a fellow student made a decision to host a musical concert on campus to raise cash for their fees. They reached out to the great pianist Ignacy J. Paderewski. The pianist’s Manager asked for a guaranteed sum of $2000 for the piano recital. A deal was struck and the boys started to work to make the concert a hit. The important day arrived.

But sadly, they’d not managed to sell enough tickets. The total collection was only $1600. Sadly, they went to the pianist, Paderewski and explained their predicament. They gave him the whole $1600, and a check for the balance $400. They promised to honour the check at the soonest attainable. “No,” announced Paderewski. “This isn’t acceptable.” He ripped up the check, returned the $1600 and said to the 2 boys:”Here’s the $1600. Please subtract whatever costs you have sustained. Keep the cash you need for your fees. And just give me whatever is left”.

The boys were shocked, and thanked him profusely. It had been a tiny act of kindness. Nevertheless it obviously marked out Paderewski as a great human. Why should he help 2 people he didn’t even know? We all come across eventualities like these in our lives. And many of us only think “If I assist them, what would happen to me?” The really good folks think, “If I do not provide help to them, what will happen to them?” They do not do it expecting something in turn. They do it because they feel it’s the proper thing to do.

Paderewski later went on to become the Prime Minister of Poland. He was a great leader, but sadly when World War II commenced, Poland was devastated. There were more than 1.5 million people starving in his country, and no money to feed them. Paderewski didn’t know where to get help. He reached out to the US Food and Relief Administration for help. The head there had been a person called Herbert Hoover who later went on to become the US President. Hoover agreed to help and swiftly shipped tons of foodgrains to feed the starving Polish folk.

A calamity was averted and Paderewski was relieved. He made a decision to go across to meet Hoover and personally thank him. When Paderewski started to thank Hoover for his noble gesture, Hoover speedily interjected and claimed, “You should not be thanking me Mr. Prime Minister. You may not remember this, but a few years gone, you helped 2 young scholars go through varsity. I was one of them”.

That has always been the way that I’ve viewed this issue. Nothing delights me more than seeing the ones I’d helped succeed. I get a strange kind of vicarious satisfaction. I remember going back to my alma mater and donating $20,000 in the early eighties to help set up a computer lab on a totally anonymous basis. Many have succeeded in life through my help and some have gone on to disappoint me. However, I’ve always forgiven and blamed myself for expecting too much.

If you want to be in a position to help others, which is a tremendous joy, I can assure you, you must first help yourself. If you are in a dead end job or you just want to be financially independent, you can be inspired by Vick Strizheus’ story.

The rich ironically has the lowest expenses

It is one of the ironies of life, but the rich really have much lower expenses relative to their income when compared to the Average Joe! Having practiced law and having served billionaire clients, I’ve had the opportunity to observe this first hand.

I remember often taking these clients out for lunch. Often in the fine dining establishments you see stockbrokers and other professionals entertaining rich clients for lunch too. When the lunch was over and the check was due for settlement, I have always observed that the billionaires were never allowed to pick up the tab! Come to think of it, it was something I had never countenanced myself! I remember thinking to myself: “What an irony. This guy is so rich and yet nobody will ever allow him to pay the bill!” “It must be really economical to be rich!”

Needless to say, the rich with their tax planning and financial and tax consultants actually pay lower taxes that the Average Joe!

One day, long after I retired from legal practice (which I did at the age of 28) one billionaire ex-client of mine who was a high roller in Las Vegas and Macau invited me and my family to accompany him and his dear wife for one of his junkets.  Now when I say he is a high roller, I mean high roller! An average flutter for him is one million dollars a day, win or lose. It’s all relative for the million dollars to him is probably equivalent to say a thousand dollars for the Average Joe.

So we eagerly packed up our bags and our entire family (wife plus 3 kids) flew to Vegas just before Christmas 2007. When we landed at LAX the Casino’s limo and chauffeur were waiting for us. Some hours later, we were deposited in the VIP reception at the Wynn. We were told that 3 suites costing $2,000 each per night had been reserved for us for 10 nights. We were given access cards that gave us access to the private lifts to the VIP suites. Best of all, to our kids, we were told that we only had to show the cards at any establishment at the Wynn and we will be ushered to the front of any queue! We could order any food or any drinks, alcoholic or otherwise and everything would be on the house. We were also told that if we wanted to see any of the shows, we only have to ask and show tickets would be delivered to our suites, again on the house. We could scarcely believe our ears! The only thing that was excluded was the tips, ranging from 18-20%, which our host insisted he’ll pick up.

As it was early evening, we got the concierge to book us into their fine dining restaurant and a Le Reve, Cirque du Soleil late show that our kids wanted to catch. We asked for Barry Manilow show tickets. Needless to say, we enjoyed the gourmet food and fine wines on offer. After dinner, we signed the check and entered the obligatory 18% into the check as tips. The kids were off for their show and we to ours. When we arrived for the show, we were ushered to front row seats. We ordered champagne and signed for them.

To cut a long story short, my kids who were widely traveled having gone with us to 300 cities worldwide told me “Dad, this is a vacation of a lifetime!” “This is what the stars enjoy…comps and front row seats!” Our every wish was like a command it seems. We were given premium dinner show tickets to Celine Dion’s Christmas Eve show and Lionel Ritchie’s New Year’s Eve Dinner Countdown show! We spent a week sampling all the fine cuisine and wines that the resort had to offer, often hopping from one restaurant to the next on a whim, just to enjoy the best that each establishment had to offer such as sinful deserts, fine cheese boards and Kobe Steak. And no…I didn’t let my host pick up the tab for the tips. We settled them before checking out.

A couple of months later, we were invited by our host for another trip, this time to Macau. To our surprise, the casino sent a private jet to pick us up. It was a 747 jumbo jet converted into an executive jet with the seats stripped out and replaced by plush first class seats. We were checked into the 6 star Four Seasons in Macau and the whole whirlwind of comps and shows and wining and dining with gay abandon repeated itself!

Over the years, we had accompanied our host on many trips such as these and there was always one common thread to it all. It cost my ex-client next to nothing! You might say that he probably lost it all on the gambling tables, but my observation is that he “wins some and loses some”. Of course, unlike some chronic gamblers who lose it all, my ex-client “knew when to walk away and knew when to run,” and he treated it as purely entertainment.

What being rich means

I remember, as a young lawyer, I used to ponder over this question. In my legal career, I served clients, some of whom were billionaires and I’d had the opportunity to observe their lifestyles and decision making! In my view, being rich actually means that you do not have to think too hard about spending on stuff that your heart desires.

If we were to distill it into one word, it is “freedom” – freedom to do what pleases you and not what pleases others. Freedom to take a month or 2 off work without having to worry too much about the impact of your absence on your income.

In my practice, I found the services that we provided so highly personalized that there was a limit to how much delegation you could employ. For instance, I would go off on vacation for 2 months at a stretch, but before the 2 months is up, my partners would be  telephoning me begging me to return, for revenue had taken a dive! I decided then that there has to be a better way and so I chose to retire from legal practice, which I did at the age of 28.

That is why I have spent my life looking for a success code – a method where income would still continue to flow in on auto-pilot, even when I’m cruising the seven seas on a 6 star cruise ship. I was willing to work hard at it, at least initially if such a code exist. The key was to find something that generates income on auto-pilot.
